EMC Documentum Backup Strategy
What happens when a disaster strikes or a single document was accidentally deleted?
Did you consider the impact of recovering your content to find that the content was corrupted or workflows were
missing during the recovery process?
The
EMC Documentum Backup Solution is provided through a combination of products offered by EMC and Platform Dynamics
focusing on Recovery Management. Recovery Management is an intuitive approach to proactive data protection; shifting
the emphasis from “protection” to “recovery”, with a predominant focus on speed, ease of use, and reliability. The three
principal components are: Disaster Recovery, Object Restore and Data Integrity.

Platform Dynamics Recycle Bin (PDRB)
What happens when an EMC Documentum user deletes a document and then realizes that he or she still needs it?
Until now, this could either be impossible to recover or require a lengthy administrative process.

With Platform Dynamics Recycle Bin (PDRB), Platform Dynamics provides a solution that enables the equivalent functionality of the Windows Recycle Bin in the EMC Documentum environment.
It is just as easy and fast to restore a document that has been deleted.

The new features of Version 2.2 include:
- Deletion protection for any WDK based client such as Webtop, WebPublisher and Documentum Client for Outlook

NEW RELEASE - VERSION 2.5 IS AVAILABLE NOW
Platform Dynamics Lotus Notes Connector (PDLNC)
E-mail is the single most commonly used form of information sharing. It goes without saying that the
information contained in e-mail needs to be seamlessly integrated with other enterprise
solutions. Integrating this information with content management systems can be cumbersome and costly, as
well as error-prone. In reality, e-mail can be broken down into many objects. So, for the thousands
of Lotus Notes users worldwide, managing the information captured in their Lotus Notes environment with
Platform Dynamics Lotus Notes Connector can be simple and seamless.
Platform Dynamics Lotus Notes Connector (PDLNC) provides the ability to store e-mail along with
attachments in a Documentum repository directly from the Lotus Notes client with enhanced security that
prevents unauthorized access. The stored Lotus Notes e-mail can be opened as usual, using the Lotus Notes
client application – making the storage and security transparent to the user. PDLNC can store any number
of Lotus Notes e-mails, with or without attachments, while maintaining the exact format of each individual
e-mail and the location of its attachments (a critical feature for archive integrity and legal discovery
uses). PDLNC also provides an additional security layer based on current e-mail distribution lists (e-mail
addresses in the "To:", "From:", "CC:" and "BCC:" fields). This
feature prevents access by any users not included in the e-mail’s distribution.
The new features of Version 2.5 include:
- Support for encrypted and signed e-mail messages
- EMC Documentum Lifecycles can now be applied to e-mail messages during export
- Export of "Draft" e-mail messages
- Choice of format (PDF or DXL) for primary rendition of the exported e-mail messages
- Assignment of a default location for the exported e-mail messages based on the object type

Platform Dynamics Consistency Checker
EMC Documentum content repositories store the most business-critical documents and
other content of organizations. Even with the best procedures in place, a variety of data
inconsistencies and corruptions can occur in repositories. Depending on the nature of the problem
and the specific content that is involved, the impact can range from critical to minor. Too often
even the most serious problems can go undetected until the content is needed - and by then it may be too late.
Platform Dynamics Consistency Checker (PDCC) allows repository administrators to rigorously analyze the
data integrity of their EMC Documentum repositories. The software performs over 350 metadata and content
data integrity checks. PDCC may be run interactively, as needed, or in batch mode as part of a regularly
scheduled repository monitoring program. PDCC handles custom object types, in addition to the standard
EMC Documentum object types. PDCC results are categorized by severity level to assist repository
administrators in focusing on the most important issues first. Repository administrators can "drill-down"
to the level needed to address issues. PDCC is a powerful tool that enables repository administrators to
identify specific data integrity issues so that root cause analysis and corrective actions can be
undertaken. Ensuring Documentum object integrity is essential to the protection of key corporate information assets.
